I’m not sure about other branches, but for the Marine Corps you have to attend PT before you ship out to recruit training.

Yes. Drinking lots of water, sleeping early, and getting the right nutrients helps a bunch.

Incorporate ab workouts with cardio. You have to focus on your stomach if you want to gain muscle there.
